In addition to laugh therapy and dance therapy, I’m an ardent proponent of cycle therapy. Velotherapy?
“When the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous, when hope hardly seems worth having, just mount a bicycle and go out for a spin down the road, without thought on anything but the ride you are taking.”
― Arthur Conan Doyle
Apparently Sir Arthur Conan Doyle understood velotherapy…
Meditative cycling recalibrates the soul and the breath. It liberates the imagination. It recycles the biological clock, unwinding the years, transforming us into our ten year old selves, pedaling to outrun the wind. Or another pedaler.
The circular orbit of each foot, each leg, unconscious and fluid. Soleful hypnosis and soulful flanerie. What an invention, the bicycle!
